Guest Speaker Presentation: Author, Model, Actor, and Retired Police Officer Roberto Alfaro

We’re excited to share that we’ll be hosting our next guest speaker on Tuesday, March 26, during session 4/period 6. There will be two back-to-back sessions: one during the first two lunch waves (from 10:30 to 11:20) and then another during the last two lunch waves (from 11:30 to 12:20).

Our guest will be Roberto Alfaro, a retired, decorated Hartford, CT Police Officer with twenty-one years of dedicated service to his community. He is also a SAG/AFTRA actor and professional model of over thirty years, a writer of dozens of poems and short stories, a motivational speaker, an inventor, a salsa dancer and instructor, a former bodybuilding champion and personal trainer, a Hartford Mounted Police rider and instructor, and finally, an author of two books. In 2014, he also had the honor of being inducted as member of the “Hamden Notables,” a “who’s, who” of Hamden, CT.

Alfaro’s book, Fighting Through the Hurdles of My Life, captures his inspiring story of survival, heartbreak, redemption, and ultimately beating the odds in a way that no one expected—a journey of rising above a series of obstacles and challenges, from growing up poor in one of the worst drug- and gang-infested neighborhoods of the South Bronx during the 60s and 70s to battling with bouts of bullying at school and domestic violence at home. Before long, he went from an extremely shy kid to a troubled young man who found himself going down the wrong path.

Alfaro somehow managed to turn his life around, and he ultimately went on to become an inspiration to many by sharing his remarkable journey, all thanks to some caring mentors who entered his life at just the right time, and due to his personal tenacity to push himself beyond the expectations of others. He is a true example of someone who never stopped believing in himself and his personal mantra: “Never stop dreaming, because no dream is too big to dream!”
